Oxymorons du jour

After a brush with the local court system, I have to add the following to George Carlin’s famous list of oxymorons:

• Civil court
• Civil lawyer
• Civil trial

None of these things has anything to do with “civil.”  Depending on the judge, the atmosphere varies from barely contained hostility to open screaming.  Anybody who thinks of a lawyer as civil doesn’t know one very well.

• Family court

The last place you want a family to end up - you would not allow your kids to use the language they use in the courtroom.
