Beavis and Butthead Get Revenge

Back in Trump-ing the Inhuman Condition I referred to the Trump core voters as people for whom the old Beavis and Butthead TV series was a documentary.  Well, it seems to be official - the people who willingly avoid any sort of thought have won the election, and that “stupid” is going to be running this country as long as Trump lasts.  Beavis and Butthead are starting to get their revenge.

Now, looking back, it seems pretty obvious that Trump represents a reaction to and rejection of everything intellectual - caring for and respecting others, taking care of the environment, thinking for one’s self, gaining and using knowledge,… The stuff that people who read, as opposed to watch TV, care about.  Unfortunately, the Stupids are also open to every sort of con and sales trick in the book, which is what happened this election.

According to at least one internet traffic-tracking source, the pseudo-news sites that represent this (essentially insane) dysfunctional thinking got more traffic that the “legitimate” news sites late in the election cycle.  I have to include Faux Noise in the legitimate column because they are at least in range of fact checkers (and fail them miserably on a regular basis).  The pseudo-news sites I am referring to here include a number of sites out of Russia.  We can safely assume that Putin knew what he was doing and knew that nobody but the crazy ones would be watching them anyway, and acted accordingly - can we get Trump for campaign finance violations for accepting foreign aid from those sites?

I saw one of these sites posted on LinkedIn.  One of Trump’s trolls posted a transcript of one of the pseudo-news reports (acting like it was real news) along with the URL for the site, and my reaction to the site was the same as the first time I every heard Rush Limbaugh - my jaw hit the floor and my brain went into a tailspin because of the mind-boggling level of distance between what the site reported and the real world.  The responses from other LinkedIn users were split between those that shared the insanity, and those with enough cells functioning to actually read and think critically about it, with the insane ones having a large majority.

Among those in the insane camp were a number of people that claimed to have jobs with real responsibility; this pattern was repeated in all of the other crazy Trump-troll posts.  If I were a recruiter, I would have been flipping through those posts and blocking the Trump-trolls so that I would never try to recruit them and so not get a black eye from wherever I placed them.  I personally had to block several people when it became obvious how far beyond the pale they were.

So there we have it - Stupid won.  Putin’s people and China are likely already in negotiation as to how to divide up the spoils when the predictable Trump does his stupid thing in the international arena.  The world is trembling, because our traditional allies know that their backside is suddenly VERY naked, and they are scrambling to figure out how to cover it without U.S. backing.  Our traditional opponents are trembling because they can’t quit laughing, because they know what happened all too well.

Now the question is how to take the predictability of “Stupids” and turn it back on them.  The destruction is already starting, though, with legal immigrants and Muslims running scared thanks to Trump’s promised inclusion of racial profiling into new laws.  Canada’s immigration web site crashed on election night, quite likely because those of us that have any sort of functioning intellect are trying to figure out how to escape - I personally have little to lose by staying, but the impulse to run is strong.  I am telling my kids to get the hell out of the country until sanity returns, because it may not until someone bombs the hell out of us and takes over from the monster that Trump is currently building.

The ones in the worst shape (besides the immigrants and Muslims I mentioned previously)  are the very people who elected Trump, which I see as a mixed blessing.  On the one hand, it is poetic justice of a sort rarely seen in the real world.  On the other hand, my nature is to help those who can’t help  themselves.  I think I have absorbed enough abuse from the Trump crowd to be quite immune to their cries when the inevitable happens, but Trump is going to need help from every uniformed anybody when those people he fooled turn on him - copying Hitler’s and Mussolini’s political play books may get you in power, but in the end neither of them survived it.

Postscript January 25, 2023: Beavis and Butthead were back in 2022 with a ninth season, but not on MTV this time.
