Lack of Competence

The current occupant of the Whitehouse wasn’t elected by the regular people - there is no doubt about that. The real question has always been “Why did anyone vote for him?” - usually asked with a vigorous shake of the head or worse.

While he verbally appealed to the religious conservatives, he obviously he wasn’t one of them. Likewise, while he made it his aim to (attempt to) discredit and roll back everything Obama and thereby captured the racist vote, his incompetence in office has ended up making Obama look like a saint. Don’t even bring up the pathological lying - old news.

All of this has not affected his popularity with his base, so those things weren’t what they cared about, either. I am going to hazard yet another guess in that direction.

When the fake president was campaigning (and between affairs), he loved to talk about the “elites in Washington,” which most of us took to mean the rich and powerful. Based on who he is and what he has done since being sworn in, that was obviously not what he meant.

What he has done in the Whitehouse seems to indicate that his “elites” were the people that got to their positions through the competence to do their jobs, something that he has proven he has none of, and his hiring choices since he has been there make it very apparent that he doesn’t value it in others. If we take his use of “elite” to mean competent, then let us look at his base in that light.

If we look at the members of his voting base as “incompetents,” then we can see far more clearly why they would vote for him, and why they are so undyingly faithful. These are people for whom lying is a normal part of existence. Many of them can barely hold a job. A look around one of trump’s Nazi-style rallies brings the word “loser” to mind if I am kind. Competent and capable are not words that apply. Trump’s base voters are angry because they have been left behind by society, and the fact that it is their own incompetence that did it to them only makes them madder.

Incompetence is the strongest tie between the fake president and his base. Other than sheer numbers, they are nothing that regular people have to fear, because they inevitably self-destruct, just as their figurehead pseudo-president is doing. “Deplorable” was a good word for them, but it missed the point - “Incompetent” would have been more to the point.
