Please Use Your Brains

The U. S of A has clearly left behind the days when it leads the world in anything. The fact the the orangutan was able to get even one vote in 2020 proved that for anyone who needed the additional proof. The citizenry of this country has forgotten that we have any brains, let alone how to use them.

I grew up in the 60’s under GOP parents, so I remember how the Nixon crowd thought. Fat nixon was just another round of the same stupidity, except when they tore the covers off of the first Nixon’s schtick, they made him resign and go away. We aren’t that smart any more.

The other thing I grew up immersed in was the idea that we couldn’t just expect the rest of the world to be transparent. Dealing with the “Communist” countries - Russia in particular - was an exercise in thinking on multiple levels, a bit like police detective work only smarter. We constantly had to think about their means, motives and opportunities, then think again about how they would respond to our understanding of those, how they could change those, and what they really wanted out of all of it in the first place. The whole process was akin to a maze of mirrors, an analogy used so many times it got boring.

If we would apply this same kind of thinking and logic to Putin and his lapdog, we might learn something. Putin is a competent observer of our society, and more honest about us than we are, so his actions are understandable. The U. S. as a world leader was the only real stumbling block in his quest for world domination, and we were good at it. We have been fading fast and China has been stepping forward, so his paranoia is going to bite him unless he changes targets, but that is his problem. He wants/wanted us out of the way.

His strategies have always been based in his skilled societal engineering, in particular in his expertise at destabilizing societies. He starts with the corruption inherent in any society and uses it to whittle away at the rest until the whole thing collapses. Since the GOP has also been working the same angle with America ever since Nixon, they have been working hand-in-hand for Putin’s entire career. GOP Fascism is just another form of the same authoritarian government that Putin calls “Communism” - they are all birds in the same flock.

If we look at the reality of the latest “leak” that supposedly came out of the Kremlin, it makes Putin’s position pretty obvious. Trump was Putin’s best card, and that card is no longer playable. It would be no surprise to smart people if it was in fact Putin’s actions that got the fake president elected. That won’t make a dent in the cult, either, so the whole point of the “leak” would be to use what little there is left of the orange card to deepen the divisions between the two sides.

If we look at it the other way and treat it as Putin trying to grab credit for the 2016 election after the fact, it doesn’t really change what we get out of it - the fake president is still a fading has-been to be thrown under the bus. That is all the orange idiot is worth to Putin now, and I find that thought quite comforting.

The orange one is now in the process of fading back into the swamp he came from. His followers are and always were the same boob-tube-bound idiots that watched his unreality shows, with all of the credulity that implies. The more of them COVID kills, the less we have to worry about them. The orange loon and his lieutenants set them up for this pandemic fall using the same idiocy that got them into the cult in the first place.

Just because the orange lunatic is fading does not mean that the threat from the GOP fascists is. They are doing their damnedest to wreck everything they can in order to let them live their backwards existences as long as they can. The fright wing’s fight is still a desperate rear-guard action, and when America gets tired of their regressive stupidity, they will fade back into the trailer parks, caves, woodpiles and garbage dumps they have inhabited since the Civil War. They will go back to their safe places to die, because their kind of brutal non-thinking can’t survive in a world based in intelligence and creativity. The order-of-magnitude change in human productivity that the transition from muscleto brain-power has brought about will not just go away because they can’t fit in to it, but like the Luddites of old, they are going to fight it as hard as they can.

The timing of the rear guard action could not be worse, though. The world is rapidly falling deeper into a climate crisis that came about thanks to the old way of thinking, and the fright wing is making the problem worse by slowing our response. While we can thank the COVID problem for cutting short the fake president’s wrecking ball reign, it hasn’t cured the idiocy that let him get elected, and the world needs more smarts, not less.
