American Religious Insanity

Crusades Image

The Taliban aren’t the only insane theocrats

The theocrats now attempting to complete their takeover of the U. S. government claim Christianity. While their religious beliefs may or may not have anything to do with the Bible, Christ, and the rest of that fairy tale, the garbage they preach to steal the human rights of the rest of us has nothing whatsoever to do with religion. The theocratic lunacy is purely their own creation.

There is nothing even vaguely religious about vaccines, abortion, homosexuality, or women’s rights. The fright-wing’s list of social-warfare grievances is just proof of their neuroses. There is nothing of their religion in that mess.

They prove daily that they have no concept of truth or “morality.” Telling the truth is so exceptional that one doctor using medical facts to argue against the insanity had her speech go viral. It did no good - the facts had no effect.

It is time for America to grow up and treat religions like the fairy tales they are. We tolerate all sorts of lies and accept things that wreck society in the name of “religion.” We need to stop using pseudo-religious lies as excuses to break civil law.

We also have to force so-called churches to stay on their side of the church-state fence. The rule that allows churches to be exempt from taxes has become an abused blank check. Delete it since the government will not enforce its provisions. Budget deficits will go down, and bazillionaires will have one less place to hide their political “donations.”

Fraud from the pulpit is still fraud. Lies told in churches should be subject to the same legal checks as lies told in any public space. Limiting the places where the theocrats can spread their lies would go a long way to slowing down the insane threats to democracy. It might even help protect the freedoms that the Constitution has long guaranteed and that most Americans take for granted.
