Corporate EntropyConcept for the week: Idea Entropy - the devaluation of an idea as it diffuses into the global knowledgebase and loses its uniqueness. This concept is now worthless. Seriously - I work for a company that is considered reasonably high-tech, and they are instituting information controls that would make the Nazis proud. Things like no cell phones with cameras near the production floor, security cameras covering every square inch of the plant, so much nazi-ware on the PCs that no work can get done, really outdated security schemes on the buildings,…You get the idea. The really sad part of this is that the management does not understand just how badly they have damaged their own idea-producing infrastructure - the part of the company that actually produces something with any long-term value. In today’s world, nobody who has a life will let go of their cell phone, because it is their link back to the real world from the confines of the corporate vacuum. This goes double for those who have any sort of creativity, since the corporate vacuum weighs most heavily on them. I guess I had hopes for this company, since they have a long history of innovation and a good track record over the long run. Since I am somewhat creative, this is driving me insane. Time to start looking for a place that will pay for a real human being, not a drone. Sad - another company drops back into the corporate muck by allowing the entropy of old management ideas to overcome their promise.
