Where are the deficit busters when you need them?

With the recent Snowden revelations, it is painfully obvious that billions and potentially trillions of dollars of tax money have been used for blatantly illegal purposes by the federal government, so why are the deficit hawks not screaming bloody murder and demanding full accounting?  Could it be that we have located at least one favorite brand of pork of these supposedly dedicated “smaller government” sorts? Could it be that the companies that fund these “conservatives” are the ones that make billions in profits on these illegal activities?

I am having serious suspicions about how much of the defense budget - the hidden majority that doesn’t already go into the pockets of the big defense contractors - goes directly into the pockets of this shadow economy’s political supporters.  Perhaps we should check and see if the Koch brothers own some of these shadowy companies and make even more money from these hidden programs?  What about the other big “conservative” money bags - how much are they skimming off of these “black” programs?  I would say that it is painfully obvious that the same ones busting social and “entitlement” programs (officially because they are too “expensive” and deficit producing) make millions in “contributions” off of those selling the government the equipment and manpower to make these dragnet programs run, not to mention the untold huge amounts poured into the comforting anonymity of conservative-friendly PACs.

Experience has taught us that the only way we are really going to get rid of these sorts of programs is to make the money disappear and stay gone, something that the hypocritical deficit hawks will never do.  It is quite possible that no living politician has the cojones to even start on the concept, seeing as how they are likely to disappear under a flurry of sudden personal “revelations” that these programs make possible.  Is there anyone out there that is brave enough and in a position to even start trying to pull the plug on this stuff?  Snowden’s example is out there for all of us, but who is going to be the next brave soul to go after this dragon?  We have to take the gold out of its lair to beat it, and that is a well-defended place…
