Suicidal Stupidity

The title above was my first thought when I read that Liberty University was trying to reopen after spring break, even though the Coronavirus outbreak was already in full swing. Jerry Falwell Jr., like his father, is too much of a political beast to care one iota about the health and lives of the students entrusted to his care, and so added more cases to an already overwhelming epidemic.

Unfortunately, I have a relative - an in-law, thankfully - that attends that school, sent by a single-parent mother who (in my not-so-humble opinion) has always lacked a little in the intellect department. The place is a complete zombie-brainwash university, with no intent to educate anyone in anything useful. The complete lack of education won’t hurt the kid’s employment possibilities since he is a basketball player from a right-wing prep school, but I still have to wonder about any mother who would send her kid to such an insane place.

I still remember the Jonestown suicide/massacre, where the insane cult leader Jim Jones conned his followers into drinking cyanide-laced Kool-Aid. The children there were given the Kool-Aid by their mothers. I can’t help but think that the kind of mother that would send their kid to a loony uni is the same kind that would make their kid drink the poison. They follow the cult over the cliff - just suicidally stupid.

Postscript: I no sooner published this than I saw where the right-wing has politicized social distancing. This is another version of suicidal stupidity, but it is the kind practiced by people who walk into buildings and blow themselves up - terrorists.They are a direct threat to me, since I am considered high risk if I catch the virus. They get around me, and I am likely to treat them like the terrorists they are.
