Men’s Day

If there is one holiday in the American calendar that truly is for men, it is Memorial Day. Father’s Day? Whazzat? Hell, nobody even remembers our birthdays. There is hell to pay if we forget our anniversary or our wives’ or kids’ birthdays, special days, whatever, but the guys get one day, and that is for the dead ones.

Being a male in our society is a thankless job. If most politicians weren’t male, we probably wouldn’t even have this one holiday, but because the US military has been the preserve of men for all but the last couple of decades, the gravestones in military cemeteries almost all have men under them, and the politicians feel obligated to honor the ones that they sent off to be killed.

While the politicians beat their chests over their product and waste their breath on giving the same meaningless speech every year, the rest of us take a few minutes to offer those dead men something they very likely never heard while they were alive. The gravestones hear two words that matter:
