The Fascists are Winning

Sieg Heil

They are just going slower this time

I was reading Heather Cox Richardson’s Substack post dated October 28 in which she talked about the beginning of the “Great Depression” in the U. S. with the stock market crash of 10/29/1929. In that post she talks about the fascists who gained strength through the depression in the United States until FDR rebuilt the economy, and I couldn’t help but compare the situation we face today with the one she talked about through the 1930’s.

Ever since at least Reagan, the Fascist party (the former GOP) has been continuously knocking out all of the pieces of FDR’s “Great Society” that they could. Where they ran into resistance, they came around and tried again. Everything from welfare and unemployment insurance to education to health care to abortion has fallen prey to their slash and burn tactics. The fake former president was just the logical next step in the progression towards the United States becoming the Fourth Reich.

Besides removing the government safety nets that keep the country livable for regular people, they have also worked from the corporate side to make sure that the working people are not able to make enough money to live. By squeezing the public economically from both sides, they have built the same set of conditions here that led to the Nazi takeover in Germany.

The real stupid part of all of this is that we knew the Fascists were doing this back in the days of Reagan, and they still got away with wrecking things as badly as they did. Killing education for the poor has given the Fascists their idiot base, and now that base is starved enough to go for the mirage of “bread and circuses” that has kept the poor gaslighted since roman times. If we manage to keep a democracy together, it will be in spite of the Fascists’ best efforts, and we aren’t doing so well right now.
