Brazil sets an example

The U. S. won’t follow it

Brazil has the same plague problem the U. S. has. It is second in the world in total COVID deaths, only behind the United States. Their total is high for the same reason ours is - their leadership, or, more precisely, their lack of it. Brazil has saddled itself with Jair Bolsonaro as president, a lunatic almost more trumpian than the orangutan himself. They haven’t gotten rid of their problem child yet, but at least their Senate has been honest enough to call him out, complete with possible criminal charges.

The unfortunate part is that, just like with the orange cult leader, even calling him out with the truth hasn’t worked. Bolsonaro still hasn’t done anything. He has dug himself in further.

Since the start of the pandemic, Bolsonaro has sabotaged local leaders’ restrictions on activity aimed at stopping the virus’ spread, saying the economy needed to keep humming so the poor did not suffer worse hardship. He also has insistently touted an anti-malaria drug long after broad testing showed it isn’t effective against Covid-19, assembled crowds without wearing masks and sowed doubt about vaccines. - The Guardian

Sounds familiar, right? Mind you, this is the same guy that is perfectly happy to slash and burn the Amazon, even as the rest of the world bakes and drowns thanks to global warming. The orange lunatic and this one are brothers from different mothers, and Donny the stupid fully supports his fellow crazy.

Bolsonaro’s bacon is being saved by his following in Brazil’s House. Their House leadership won’t bring up impeachment. Even if the Senate report doesn’t result in impeachment, the Brazilian fruitcake has problems in the polls and is up for reelection in 2022. We can only hope that the Brazilians are as successful at removing their garbage as we were with ours. Even retiring him to a country club is better than leaving him with free reign over burning the world’s biggest carbon reserve while the global temperature climbs.
