Putin Reverts to Form

The KGB taught him terrorism, so terrorism is what he does.

Too many people have forgotten where Putin learned his business. Before the former Soviet Union’s leaders wised up to their obsolescence, Putin was KGB. For you history-impaired, the KGB was the world’s largest purveyor of genocidal terrorism while it existed. Almost all, if not all, modern terror organizations have KGB-sponsored and -trained beginnings, with their hallmark being their genocidal tactics. To all intents and purposes, the KGB invented modern terrorism.

When the Russian troops find they can’t walk over Kyiv, the terrorist bombs hospitals and residential neighborhoods. He learned this in the KGB, and his tactical understanding of the world is distorted through this lens. “Civilized” warfare (civilized anything) never had any bearing on his existence except where the civilized restraint of other countries allowed him to continue to exist, and defeating him is going to require a less-than-civilized response from the world if he continues his military adventures.

I am proud of Biden and the leaders of Europe for trying to cut Putin’s economic base out from under him. Sending troops and weapons to Ukraine is less civilized but probably necessary in the long run unless the dormant civilization in Russia wakes up and takes control from him, something that doesn’t look likely. The only people in Russia worried about him enough to do anything right now seem to be the oligarchs living off of him and are afraid of having their Mafia wrecked. If there were any justice in Russia, the obsolete authoritarianism of Putin and his fellow oligarchs would be destroyed and a government of human beings installed; this is exactly what Putin fears, of course.

To permanently deal with Putin and his ilk, the Russians who have education and see the real world past the veil of government lies need to take over and treat the citizens as people while eliminating the oligarchy and its corruption. Anything less will leave Putin-scum residue to step in and take his place with the backing of the moneyed aristocracy that is the real ruler right now.
