The real problem never left the office

For two years, corporate management had to pretend that their employees’ health mattered. Now that COVID has receded to a dull roar in their minds, the psychopaths are back. You could say that they were always there, even if the office was empty - the company name was still on the door. Now they are back with bared fangs and a loud “because I said so.”

Those with problems that leave them the most vulnerable to the COVID virus no longer matter. If they go, they are irrelevant collateral damage. Husbands with diabetes, wives with asthma - For a while, the bosses had to listen when the worker could kill their relatives by carrying the virus home. Not anymore - being in the office is the priority.

There is no good reason for this. Being in the office is BAD for quality of work and BAD for productivity. The employees’ inefficiency doesn’t matter, though. If they are in the office, it gives the managers a reason to exist. They can pretend to work by micromanaging the workers. The whole situation is a psychopath’s dream and a worker’s nightmare.

The psychopaths love that it forces the employees to spend wasted hours commuting, too. Increased misery means they have something else to beat the employees harder with. “Work from home” becomes a reward for the favored few. The bosses always reward themselves, of course.


If this sounds like I am demonizing management, I am. They have earned it as a group. Not every manager is this bad, but collectively they are. If there is a good manager in an organization, there are four or five or six others to screw things up. The corporate culture and the top managers select their own kind. They don’t want human beings that will care for their employees. They want slave beaters.
Even things that would reduce the risk of airborne virus infections are too much to ask. Disinfecting systems would help make any modern office ventilation safer. They would reduce employee sick days, but they cost money. Spending an extra nickel on employee health means a nickel out of the managers’ bonuses. Managers are so poverty-stricken they couldn’t stand the pay cut, of course.

My wife works for these creatures. I have diabetes and asthma. Even with all the shots, I am at serious risk of dying from COVD if I catch it. My life no longer matters to my wife’s employers - they are demanding she come into the office. The fact that her coming home with COVID could kill me is not relevant anymore. I resent the shit out of that.
