A Modest Proposal

This country has a severe problem. Liars and fabulists control the information that too much of the population makes decisions on. We have a well-intentioned Constitution that limits how much “censorship” we can do. The fright-wing has proven that formal, government-based leadership can only go so far.

With social media driving a lot of politics, we also need thought leaders. Someone has to have the “memes” to keep the discussion in reality and constructive. This is the positive side of the argument - there are plenty of experts on the other side spouting destructive fantasies. Someone has to make the truth stand up also.

While we can escape the lie-bombs and propaganda, the “Fox News” stupids who suck up the propaganda can also avoid reality. This has to stop somewhere if our democracy is to survive. The professional liars run circles around the truth with their lies. The lies must be labeled, and the truth must invade the liars’ space.

The Alex Joneses and Tucker Carlsons of the world only succeed because nobody can call their bullshit down in real-time. The fact they are lying has to be in front of the suckers they lie to. These guys need a giant “poison” sign over everything they do and say, one that they can’t do anything about. A giant red “L” on their forehead, one they are not allowed to hide, would be a good start, identifying them as the losers and liars they are.

This sort of censorship is clearly an invitation to abuse. Imposing something like this as a sentence after the culprit has been found guilty in a court of law would put it in a different legal light. Alex Jones has made himself a legal mess where a clever judge could impose something like what I am thinking. He has attacked the judge and the legal system on his show. He did it in the middle of the trial and against the judge’s orders. This would be an ideal punishment for that contempt of court. Leaving him on the air but removing control of his content would be the ultimate justice.

Fox News and the other fake news networks are in hot water over their Dominion lies. When they are found guilty of lying and creating damage by their lies, that changes the “censorship” argument. They are already guilty, so the “censorship” would be a punishment. Like being in jail, the guilty party has fewer constitutional rights, but a court decides the limitations subject to appeal.
