The Second Amendment

I have to laugh every time I hear some gun freak talk about the Second Amendment as if it guaranteed their right to carry guns. As most of the rest of the world is well aware, properly regulated gun ownership and use is necessary to control gun violence. The United States is behind the times in this area, as it is in many areas, but it hasn’t always been.

The “Founding Fathers” - the authors of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights - were absolutely not in favor of all of the open carry and concealed carry garbage that the right wing has been touting, at least according to the historical record. A recent summary article discusses this, and points out the total lies the right is telling in their campaigns against any kind of gun control.

What this means is that with every win for the NRA and the right in this area, we get further from the rest of the world, and we open ourselves to more and deadlier gun violence within the country. As it is now, our children have morals and moral courage, while the adults follow amoral lunatics like the orange fascist soon to exit the Whitehouse. The children see the idiocy of their elders and the ridiculous lies they tell, but the elders don’t want to listen. The children witness the crazy shootings and understand them in context, but their elders ignore the truth.

I use the term “elders” because the people I am referring to are older, physically old enough to be adults, but refuse to shoulder the responsibility of adulthood. I have been referring to the fake president’s cult of personality as the “Peter Pan Rebellion,” and the idiocy just seems to be getting worse.

Once in a while, a little bit of truth enters the public consciousness against all the efforts of the fascists. I just wish that there were adults in the various places of power that would actually exercise their responsibilities and act on these truths.
