Futility

I was enjoying my tunes, and “Coyote” by Mark Knopfler came on. This song always makes me laugh because I was a fan of the Road Runner cartoons in my TV-watching days. Much of that cartoon series and much of the song revolves around the futility of Wile E. Coyote’s attempts to capture the road runner.

The word stuck in my head. So much of what I see in politics today is the offensive far-right’s futile attempts to turn back the clock to a time that never existed. I have more than once pointed out this futility, but the posts have been (ironically) futile.

Apparently, nobody wants to hear the unpleasant truth. These idiots’ attempts to create what they consider their perfect existence is tied to their belief in their religions’ fairy tales, too. Religious fairy tales have gotten my written attention many times also. Even my own belief in the United States and our liberal democracy seems like a fairy tale today. At least I know what a fairy tale is, unlike some.

Because the word has so many examples in life today, I decided to poke a little fun at a few of them:

The Orange Cult

These people pretty well define futility. They are the “spoiled children” that refuse to grow up, the Peter Pans of today. They absolutely refuse to face their real problems. Indeed, they create new problems by being actively fascist and working to destroy our democracy. They demand “Free Speech” (freedom of screech is more like it) while violently suppressing others’ freedom with their sick racism.

I really cannot understand how this mindless subspecies of humanity survives in the U. S. Certainly the destruction of what is left of the social safety net that their GQP “representatives” advocate will kill them off if that destruction is allowed to happen. So far, the adults have prevailed, though, and there is still some safety net. Self-destructive stupidity is the only way they operate.

Not Funny

While I said up top that I was going to poke fun at the idiots, the fact of the matter is that there is nothing funny about the people destroying our society. I am not a comedian, so “laugh or cry” situations like ours inevitably end up in tears for me.

The ultra-rich in our society are consciously and intentionally making it worse every day. The remaining Koch brother - the other one is dead, thankfully - and his ultra-right, ultra-rich brethren have a PAC dedicated to ensuring the poor get poorer while the rich pay nothing to nobody. They are using the power of their billions of dollars to keep the playing field tilted their way. The John Birchers and Flat Earthers have some very rich backing.

We live in some terrible times, with what was once the shining U. S. beacon of democracy now working its way toward a Putin-run fascist state. Europe is not in a much better shape, but they have so far managed to dodge the corporate fascists’ takeover of the social systems, so they still have civilized benefits like healthcare and food. The U. S. is losing access to both of those as fast as the corporations and their wholly owned GQP can take them away.

I keep hoping that having an adult in the Whitehouse will change the country’s direction. Instead, we have the full-on fascist SCOTUS and the crackhead GQP House of Representatives making things worse.

Has anybody got a better anti-depressant? The drugs the GQP does make depression worse for real humans.
